Game Description
"A Field Of Sunflowers" is a heartfelt story about the loss of a loved one. Azalea and Gabriel move into their new house in the countryside - wanting to get away from the suffocating city life. Azalea's wish is to plant a field of sunflowers - which, to her, symbolize hope and joy of their new beginning, since sunflowers are always looking towards the bright. All is well, until the monsoon season hits them with heavy rains. The game explores themes of loss, grief, and, eventually, hope.

How does your game tie into the theme?
The story is based around the fact that losing a loved one leaves a void in one's heart. An unexpected loss, hitting one like a thunderstorm, leaves their soul in an all-consuming void. This is represented in game by the state of the garden - grief turns garden into a dead void.

I loved the attention to detail in the audio. The music was beautiful and showed a lot of restraint. The fact that this was made in such a short time is impressive.

This was a short, beautifulexperience. Nicelywritten! The visual and audio design were really good, too.

Reading over some of the feedback you've already gotten, I don't have muchto add. I'd agree thatthe pacing felt bumpy, but the story still had the full-arc I would have wanted from it. It didn't have "fun gameplay", but I'm not sure that would have complimented theexperience. I'd add that the cliff edge on the right felt like a Chekhov's gun, especially given the warning about depression and loss. I'm not sure if that was intended.

Thank you for making this and sharing itwith the community! It has a lot ofsoul.

This is a very strong story-driven game and it's very interesting to see it as my team had a very similar concept - but very different execution. Let me talk of the strengths here: the best parts of the game for me are those that show, rather than tell -two highlights are the glimpse of Gabriel who appears right at the end and then fades away, and then the final lifting of the umbrella to release to the winds. I think you could have done more of that subtle story-telling, like when the flower emerges in winter, just show it and then show the character stooping to view it, maybe holding the umbrella over it protectively. Telling the story visually and reducing the text the player is required to read is my suggestion.

Artis strong, audio is there but room for improvement in perhaps unlocking more emotion in the music. Controls are very simple and game is very straightforward to play. Could have allowed for skipping animation on dialogue to help fast readers progress quicker. Great interpretation of the theme (though I would say that!)

I have mixed feelings, the visuals and audio are very coherent! But the game is not really fun :/... even if it means telling a story, I'd prefer it to be expressed much more through the environment and symbolism, the texts are sometimes unnecessary despite the pretty metaphors! To be honest, I don't think the game is fun at all!

Not my type of game typically but I really liked the visuals in this. It felt very dream-like which definitely elevates the narrative.

Nice wind and sunflower growthanimation! Like audio and narrative by chapters.
Have some feedback about writing. I see my old mistakes, you shouldn't describe everything, moreover, obvious things. Readers should find it themselves. How? It's your job of a writer:)
You dont describe that something happened, you write it so it happens (i forgot exact wording, hope the meaning left clear)
About emotions. I remembered a saying that if you want your reader to cry you must yourself burst in tears.
You try to express overwhelming emotions in simple ways. I wish I could list all problems and solutions to them but i'm not a writer myself though i tried years ago because i love reading(was too harsh on myself and gave up). Taste and sense will come eventually when you will have read many good-qualitybooks.
And I hope that you'll not stop like i did.

Btw, верю, что английский:))

it's really a very well done game; the visuals are excellent, and Iparticularly like the farm setting with the giant yellow sunflowers swaying in the background. i think it's pretty ambitious to try and pull off a story like this during a jam, and Ithink you did it very well. there were a couple things that bothered me:the major negative event felt sudden and needed a little more foreshadowing, and i was disappointed to see such an uplifting ending suddenly turn into a depressing one. overall though, this is an exceptional jam submission, nice work. congrats!

This is one of the games that transcend the jam for me. The quality is just next level, the visuals are charming and unique, the sound design is clever, the music really adds emotionand the writing is the best I have seen from all jams I have participated. Awesome entry !

I usually avoid games with such heavy emotions since I'm easy to cry (which I did), but the game is visually so pretty and it pulls you in to try it out. Lovely visuals, amazing sound and a touching story that is told in just the right amount of time, not overstaying or going too fast.

Incredible work, really.

It's crazy how much you got done in a week here, the overall aesthetic and levels of polish are great.

I'm not the biggest fan of visual novels as they lack in the gameplay side of things for me but creating something this impressive and well put together narratively in a week is amazing. It's incredibly efficient in feeding you enough info to get you invested and tell a complete story in a few extremely well-polished screens.

It's pretty crazy you managed to do the game in 2 languages, amazing.

One of the stars of the jam for sure.

Never liked visual novels because of how much reading there is but this one is an exception, the feeling of the environment and the aesthetics around really made up for the sake of how fun this game was to me! every little detail along with multiple chapters being added i think the developer and the artist and the music producer really did well throughout this jam! and i only wish you guys the best to keep going because you all certainly have the talent for this!

Beautiful game.Visuals and audio work really well together.

I only wish maybe the game had a little more interactivity, it would be really interesting to tie the themes together with a meaningful game mechanic.

Love seeing a developer tell a personal story through their game.
